Pak’nSave Rolleston: Foodstuffs South Island
Client: Foodstuffs South Island
Main Contractor: Naylor Love
Services: Complete Electrical Installation
Delivering a Landmark Retail Development
When Foodstuffs South Island set out to build the largest Pak’nSave in the South Island, Aotea Electric Canterbury was selected to deliver the complete electrical installation for the new Rolleston store.
Spanning more than 8,000m², this landmark retail development required a robust, future-focused electrical infrastructure capable of supporting a modern supermarket operation while maximising efficiency, reliability, and performance.
Over approximately 12,000 labour hours, our team worked closely with Naylor Love, specialist suppliers, and other trades to coordinate and deliver every aspect of the electrical installation, from the incoming network supply through to final commissioning.
Built for Performance
Large retail environments demand far more than simply keeping the lights on. Every system needs to work seamlessly together to support customers, staff, refrigeration systems, checkout operations, security, and energy management.
The project included the installation of a new 11kV network supply and 750kVA transformer, main switchboard, low-voltage reticulation, standby generation systems, UPS systems, and solar integration.
Advanced lighting controls were incorporated throughout the facility, alongside automated emergency lighting monitoring, energy management systems, security interfaces, and extensive external lighting across the carpark and surrounding areas.
Collaboration and Coordination
Projects of this scale rely on strong planning and communication.
Working within a busy multi-trade environment, our team coordinated closely with utility providers, consultants, specialist subcontractors, and nominated suppliers to ensure all systems were delivered safely, efficiently, and on programme.
The result is a high-performance electrical installation supporting one of Canterbury’s most significant retail developments.
